Jay Jacobs Biography

Jay was born and raised in Philadelphia and moved to New York to pursue a career in the Entertainment Industry when he was 19 years old. He soon realized that being in front of the footlights was not in the cards...so he filled out an application to work at the William Morris Agency in New York , arguably the biggest, most powerful force in the entertainment industry then and now.

Jay began in the show-biz chronicled WMA mailroom in NY in 1961 . Armed with perseverance, a keen eye and ear for talent, and a lot of youthful exuberance, Jay was plucked out of the mailroom (where he was running errands, filling soap dispensers, delivering scripts) and was promoted to assistant agent under the supervision of two young agents who discovered BILL COSBY and SIMON & GARFUNKEL. Within a year his hard work, long hours and determination were paying off. A new West Coast band was just breaking. They heard about Jay 2500 miles away and asked that he be their East Coast agent. That band is the BEACH BOYS!
